The Reno Brothers

The Golden Guitar project gave the Reno Brothers a rare opportunity to once again play with their father. King took the original recording of Don Reno on flat-pick lead guitar, Bill Harrell on rhythm guitar, and Buck Ryan on fiddle and overdubbed the Reno Brothers as accompaniment, creating not only a masterpiece, but a family reunion as well. Ronnie played the rhythm guitar, Dale had the mandolin, and Don Wayne was on the upright bass. Here's what the Reno Brothers had to say about this unique opportunity to "jam" with their father:

"I just can't say how I truly feel about this project...look at how many years it's been. Dad wanted his sons to keep playing music together, and we have. Now we get to play along with the music he created so long ago. I do know this: it is one of the great things of my life." --Don's oldest son and rhythm guitarist, Ronnie Reno

"Dad often told me, 'I'm not a banjo picker, I'm a guitar player. I just play the banjo 'cause I have to!' He once told me about this guitar session; he was real proud of it. It was his one and only guitar instrumental project. I feel lucky to play along with him on this. It brings back a lot of laughter and tears...and great memories of our ol' barn-burnin' pickin'!" --Don's middle son and mandolin player, Dale Reno

"Dad had his own original flat-pickin' style that is copied by musicians to this day. I know because I'm one of 'em! It was a great experience to play along with the recordings that he made 26 years earlier. I felt almost like he was there. It was like old times playing bass behind my hero, my Dad...the flat-picker." --Don's youngest son and upright bass player, Don Wayne Reno
